Dr. Ing. Martina Eckert received her Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH), Germany, in 1997 and the Ph.D. degree in telecommunication engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain, in 2003. From 1997 to 2013, she has been a Member of the Image Processing Group (GTI) of the UPM. She was a Ph.D. scholar of the Spanish National Research Plan from 1997 to 2000, and a Research Assistant from 2000 to 2003. From 2004 to 2005, she was a Visiting Lecturer at the Universidad Carlos III Madrid and since 2005, she is a full professor at the UPM, teaching Video Coding and Television Systems in the Department of Audiovisual and Communications Engineering. Since 2017 she is member of the research group on Acoustics and MultiMedia Applications (GAMMA), located at the Research Center on Software Technologies and Multimedia Systems for Sustainability (CITSEM). Her research interests and areas of publication include image and video compression, computer vision, augmented reality and natural interfaces. She participated in multiple national and international projects.
