CITSEM participates in the National Project :
Since 28 December 2021, CITSEM (UPM) and the Galician Aquaculture Cluster (CETGA) have launched the project: "Aquaculture 4.0: Application of vision and artificial intelligence technologies to improve the production process", which will last for two years.
This project deals with the implementation of aquaculture 4.0 in aquaculture production processes, incorporating artificial intelligence tools to the already automated processes, allowing the instruments to collect, analyse and integrate the available information related to the crops in order to carry out different actions autonomously. This makes it possible to learn from the results obtained in order to continuously improve the processes, without human intervention and without affecting the health and growth of the animals reared and, therefore, their quality and quantity.
This project proposes to contribute to two key aspects for the improvement of the production process that have been identified over the last few years by the companies in the sector represented in this project through CETGA. These two aspects are:
- Animal growth process in the first days of life.
- Analysis of possible pathologies
The main objective addressed by the development of this project is the improvement of the production chain of the individuals of a given species in tank-based aquaculture facilities, from the seeding of the larvae to their arrival in the distribution chain. This improvement aims to maximise tank production and improve the quality of the final product while respecting the quality of life of the animals. The techniques proposed to achieve this objective are based on multimodal images so as to avoid invading the environment in which the individuals develop and therefore not affecting their quality of life in any way. Based on the information collected by these image sensors, the use of data processing algorithms based on artificial intelligence to analyse, interpret and make autonomous or semi-autonomous decisions will be investigated. The deployment of this type of techniques will make it possible to improve the two aspects of the production process mentioned above.
This project, co-directed by CITSEM and CETGA, is a national project called by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and is funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU.
