Irina Argüelles Álvarez (PhD), member of the Acoustics and Multimedia Applications Group (GAMMA) since 2019, is a Professor at the UPM in the Department of Linguistics Applied to Science and Technology. She teaches undergraduate subjects at the School of Telecommunications Systems and Engineering and has participated in the Master of Teacher Training in Compulsory Secondary Education, Baccalaureate and Vocational Training (Technology and Graphic Expression).

She is a founding member of the Multidisciplinary Educational Innovation Group (GIEM), 2006, which she has coordinated since 2014. With the group, she has participated in 22 projects and directed 8. She has collaborated in other research projects as with the group T>SIC (2007-2012) in the area of Linguistic Steganography. She has done two post-doctoral research stays at the University of Leeds Language Centre (School of Modern Languages and Cultures), United Kingdom, in 2009 and 2010 funded by the UPM in addition to five short stays at other European universities. She has been co-director of the Acquisition and Learning Panel of the Spanish Association of Applied Linguistics (AESLA) since April 2014. She was Deputy Director of External and Institutional Relations (2005-2008) and Academic Secretary of the Department (2016-2018).
