He obtained his degree as a Telecommunication Engineer in 1977 and his Ph.D. as a Doctor of Telecommunication Engineering in 1985, both from the "Universidad Politécnica de Madrid" (UPM).
He started his academic activity at the Technical Engineering School of Telecommunication, EUITT (now School of Telecommunications Systems and Engineering, ETSIST), of the UPM in 1979, where he was a Lecturer until 1987. From 1987 to 2010, he worked as Associate Professor in the Electronic Engineering Department (DIE), of the School of Telecommunications Engineering, ETSIT, of the UPM. In 2010 he joins the Electronic and Control Systems Department, now Telematics and Electronics Engineering Department, DTE, of the ETSIST, being a Professor of that Department since 2011. During all these years, he has had several academic posts at the EUITT, the ETSIT and the UPM.
In 1989 he began the Digital Architectures Group in the DIE and in 2005 he joined the GPDS-CEDITEC group of the ETSIT-UPM. He joined the Electronic and Microelectronic Design Group (GDEM) in 2010. He has been Director of CITSEM since its creation in 2011 until 2020.
